Crooked Acres Records are proud to announce their first vinyl release - AEAEA - featuring a selection of moody 4/4 cuts and dark ambient techno from the delphic Urban Exploration collective. Heavy with dreamy analogue synths, thudding bass and industrial shimmer, these stripped-back atmospheric tracks see the Leeds electronic music crew at their most focused, deep and immersive.

Numb - which was previously released on Terra Incognita (2021) - has now been remastered for vinyl by Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive Man), breathing new life into this mournful slice of ghostly house music. The cinematic science fiction vibe, and the futurist nostalgia that permeated the last album has been distilled and refined in the new tracks too, toughened up for the soundsystem, but still evidently the work of a group as adept at exploring ambient soundscapes, as they are at making infectious and funktional beats with their machines. Shuffled hi-hats and deep subs betray the group’s distant history as purveyors of dubby UK bass music. Echoes of their journey from free party DJs to radiophonic studio experimenters run throughout these tracks, but the result certainly has crossover appeal - ideal for both forward-thinking dancefloors and twilight headphone sessions.

Previous press examples:

"Urban Exploration present utopia and dystopia as opposite sides of the same coin" The Wire, Issue 426

"Rather like Yorkshire's answer to Underground Resistance, the Leeds-based Urban Exploration is a shadowy collective... reminiscent of the dark-edge mischief of the Skam label's output, with a programmed funkiness that echoes The Black Dog's 'Spanners' classic. Praise indeed, but richly deserved" Electronic Sound, Issue 37

"Terra Incognita definitely feels like it’s venturing forward and breaking new ground, tiptoeing around the space between Tangerine Dream and The Orb. It’s a lot of space, and Urban Exploration seem keen to traverse it" Aural Aggravation

"19 tracks by the Leeds collective are blended into a continuous mix of impressive consistency... full of all the ripples of acid, throbs of warehouse electrofunk, plus echoes of Yorkshire Bleep that slipped through the crevices of fashion... but there's a hallucinatory extra layer of detail in the crackles, distortion artefacts" Joe Muggs, The Wire, Issue 408
